Ethnobotany of Ancestral Plant Fibre Practices

Four Live Online Talks With Eduarda Bastian

These talks will be recorded and available to registrants for three months afterwards.

The online lecture series will focus on ancestral extraction methods of vegetable fibres, as well as their cultural role in different traditional communities around the world. During the lessons, we will explore a wide range of plant fibres that are used for textiles and other applications, discussing the botanical characteristics and technical aspects of plant fibres.

Some of the plant fibres we will get to know during the course are: Bromeliad fibres, New-zealand-flax, Sansevieria fibres, Palm fibres, as well as many others.

At the completion of the course, the students will be able to understand and identify different plant fibres and their manual extraction methods.

Eduarda Bastian is a plant fiber researcher, with focus on ethnobotany. Founder of Fibershed Brasil and MA in Sustainable Fashion at ArtEZ University of the Arts.
