One Page Book Arts

An online class with With Lynne Connolly

On Tuesday 29th September 2026 4-6pm BST

Recording of the live session will be until the 29th December 2026

This workshop will involve making several one sheet wonders! We will use several different templates to explore making mini unfolding photo or art books, and also how to make a wraparound cover. These are lovely structures to explore narrative, ideas for a small collection of images, ideas, pattern and so forth.

The workshop is suitable for all who have an interest in making physical book forms to house images - no previous experience required. It is a wonderful introduction to working with minimal materials, considering narrative and sequence, and embraces all visual art forms for content.

It is an active hands-on making workshop. You will be able to make and complete your book within the session.

You will leave with demonstrations of several finished pieces of work, which you will also make in the workshop. During the demonstration, you'll be introduced with some basic book arts skills including, paper grain, accuracy in measuring and cutting, folding to create a binding.

Including a PDF Handout

About Lynne Connolly

Dr Lynne Connolly has taught as a senior lecturer in higher education with the University of Chester, and The Open University, as well as within community initiatives in Ireland and across the U.K.

She has run workshops both online and in person, in photographic arts, book-arts, and mindful photography. Current workshops are mainly with local community groups both in Belfast and Cheshire, as well as teaching for the Royal Photographic Society.

Lynne has completed a doctorate in Book Arts, Photography and its application for use in trauma and well being, she has postgraduate degrees in Fine Art Photography; Social Sciences; and one of the last cohort to gain the PG certificate in Therapeutic Photography (Distinction) at Robert Gordon University (2025). Lynne is also a member of the Society of Bookbinders.

Her own work explores the intersection of photography, collage, stitching, and book arts - research and project work oscillate in and out of these elements and try to give presence to that which might otherwise be unspoken.

The use of book arts and one page structures is a wonderful way to explore some of these layers using existing materials, recycled and hand made papers to create a structure for narratives and way to bring themes of work and ideas together.
