Making Paste Papers

With Natural Colour

An Online Demonstration with Suzi Banks-Buam

Tuesday 7th December 2027 4-6pm GMT

Paste papers are made with one part printmaking rigor and one part childlike freewheeling fun. Since the Renaissance, painters have thickened pigment with starchy pudding-like pastes that extend colour and hold marks made on large sheets of paper.

These colourful, versatile papers can be used to make book covers, mail art, and as collage elements. Suzi will demonstrate the set-up, including making paste. Then, using plant and mineral pigments, Suzi will demonstrate making paste sheets using a variety of easily accessed tools.
